My Metabolism
Quiz: The Truth About Metabolism
I learned a little bit about metabolism in the past in Ms.JJ's class. I learned a lot from this quiz. My results were 13 out of 15 questions right. I mostly guessed. I did not know that if a person has a high-protein diet, they can have higher metabolism because protein takes more energy to digest high protein foods. I already knew that metabolism is all the body’s chemical reactions, or all the process used to convert or use energy, but I did not know the difference between metabolism and metabolic rate. Metabolic rate is the rate at which a body burns calories or the speed of a person’s metabolism. Lifestyle is not the only thing that affects metabolism; age and genetics have an influence on metabolism as well. Strength training can change metabolism and help a person lose weight. Both muscle mass and amount of fat influence metabolism. If a person eats less than 1200 calories a day, then their metabolic rate will slow down. Also, as a person ages, the metabolic rate slows. I found it interesting that caffeine and spicy foods can boost a person’s metabolic rate.
Glycemic Index and Exercise Metabolism
The glycemic index, or GI, of a food is the magnitude of the increase in blood glucose that occurs after food is ingested. Foods that have a higher fructose content, have high amylose/amylopectin ratios, are present in relatively large particles, are minimally processed, and are ingested along with fat and protein ten do have lower GI. We are more prone to disorders and diseases if we don't exercise. Consuming foods with lower GI about 30-60 minutes before an endurance exercise usually promotes positive effects during exercise. Consuming foods with high GI after exercise will usually promote the restoration of muscle glycogen. GI of foods during exercise is unimportant. Manipulation of GI of ingested foods has the potential to alter exercise metabolism, but the effect of GI on exercise performance is not certain and requires more research.
Weird Reasons Why You're so Tired3 short videos
I learned a lot from these videos. I didn't know that such minute things could affect if a person feels tired or not. People can suffer from fatigue when they have a certain bacteria in their stomach, and it helps to get yourself checked. I was surprised to learn why gargling is so important. It is good to gargle every day so people can breathe through their nose. Otherwise, phlegm would build up and make it harder to breathe. I never thought gargling and fatigue could ever be related. Nopal Cactus, Cordyceps mushrooms, which grow from a caterpillar’s head, scrambled eggs, and cantaloupes are things that can help stop fatigue. This is good to know, but I doubt I would ever use these, with the exception of possibly eggs and cantaloupes. I was surprised that coffee actually can cause fatigue because it dehydrates people.
